Erica carnea f. carnea 'Tanja'
Erica carnea f. carnea 'Tanja' is a compact evergreen winter heath producing fragrant, deep magenta-pink flowers from February to April. The small blooms cluster along the stems above fine, dark green needle-like foliage, creating a colourful display through late winter and spring.
Its neat, low-growing habit makes it ideal for edging paths, carpeting the front of borders and filling gaps in rockeries. It also works well in patio pots and mixed winter containers, where its rich flower colour contrasts beautifully with white heathers and early bulbs. The flowers attract bees and other early pollinators.
Hardy and low maintenance, 'Tanja' prefers full sun and well-drained soil. Acidic or neutral conditions suit it best, although it tolerates mildly alkaline soil and some light shade. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain its compact shape and encourage fresh growth, avoiding cuts into old, woody stems.
