Erica carnea 'Saskia'
Erica carnea 'Saskia' is a compact evergreen winter heath producing clusters of rose-pink, urn-shaped flowers from December to April. The blooms create a cheerful display through the colder months, bringing colour to borders, rockeries and seasonal containers before many spring plants begin flowering.
Its fine, needle-like foliage is mid-green in summer, darkening and developing bronze tones during winter. The low, spreading habit provides attractive groundcover and softens border edges, while its manageable size suits smaller gardens and patio pots. The flowers offer valuable nectar for bees during winter and early spring.
Hardy and easy to grow, 'Saskia' performs best in full sun with well-drained soil. It prefers acidic or neutral conditions but also tolerates alkaline soil, making it adaptable to a range of gardens. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat shape, avoiding cuts into old, woody growth.
