Erica carnea 'Porter's Red'
Erica carnea 'Porter's Red' is a compact evergreen winter heath producing small, urn-shaped flowers in rich magenta shades from January to May. The colourful blooms stand out against its fine, dark green needle-like foliage, bringing welcome brightness to the garden through winter and into spring.
Its low, spreading habit makes it ideal for groundcover, rockeries, banks and the front of borders. Planted in groups, it creates a colourful winter carpet, while individual plants work beautifully in mixed containers with spring bulbs and contrasting heathers. The evergreen foliage maintains useful texture after flowering.
Hardy, reliable and low maintenance, 'Porter's Red' grows best in full sun or light partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. It prefers acidic or neutral conditions but also tolerates mildly alkaline soil. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a neat shape, avoiding cuts into old, woody stems.
