Erica carnea 'Loughrigg'
Erica carnea 'Loughrigg' is a low-growing evergreen winter heather producing a generous display of flowers from January to May. The blooms open pink before deepening through rose-pink to rosy-purple, creating changing colour against fine, dark green foliage with attractive bronze tints.
Its vigorous, spreading habit forms a dense carpet, making it particularly useful for covering banks, softening rockeries and edging borders. The rosy flowers blend beautifully with white-flowering heathers and spring bulbs, while its evergreen foliage provides lasting texture. It also suits patio containers, where the long flowering display can be enjoyed up close.
Hardy and easy to maintain, 'Loughrigg' performs best in full sun or light partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. It prefers acidic or neutral conditions and also tolerates alkaline soil. A light trim after flowering helps keep its growth neat, making it a dependable choice for colourful groundcover and mixed heather planting.
