Drimys lanceolata 'Red Spice'
Tasmannia lanceolata 'Red Spice' is an upright evergreen shrub prized for its glossy, leathery dark green leaves and vivid deep red stems. The foliage is strongly aromatic when crushed, releasing a distinctive warm, peppery fragrance.
Clusters of small, fragrant creamy-white flowers appear in spring, contrasting beautifully with the colourful stems and foliage. Tasmannia plants are dioecious, meaning male and female flowers occur on separate plants, and pollinated female plants may produce rounded black fruits.
With its exotic appearance and year-round structure, 'Red Spice' is ideal for woodland-style borders, contemporary planting and sheltered gardens. It grows best in partial shade with fertile, moist but well-drained, lime-free soil and benefits from protection against cold, drying winds.
