Cuprocyparis leylandii
Cuprocyparis leylandii is a vigorous evergreen conifer producing dense sprays of rich green foliage. Its tall, upright habit and rapid growth make it a popular choice for creating substantial hedges and year-round screening around larger gardens.
Planted in a row, Leyland cypress develops into a thick living boundary that provides privacy and shelter from wind. Regular clipping encourages a dense, even shape and helps retain foliage towards the base, making it useful for dividing garden areas and screening neighbouring buildings.
Very hardy and adaptable, it grows well in full sun or partial shade with well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and trim established hedges two or three times between April and August. Keep cuts within the green growth, as older bare wood will not produce fresh shoots.
