Crassula ovata 'Hobbit'
Crassula ovata 'Hobbit' - A distinctive jade plant cultivar with tubular, trumpet-shaped green leaves that curl inward, often tipped with red in bright light. Compact and sculptural, it’s perfect for bonsai-style pots, windowsills, or dry indoor displays.
- Other names: Hobbit Jade, Ogre Ears, Crassula argentea 'Hobbit'
- Useful to know: Not safe for pets – toxic if ingested
- Eventual height: Up to 60–75cm over time
- Origins: Garden hybrid of Crassula ovata, native to South Africa
Crassula Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun. Best colour and compact growth occurs with several hours of sunlight daily.
Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly and reduce in winter. Avoid water sitting around the roots.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a gritty, well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Feed once or twice during the growing season with diluted fertiliser.
Humidity: Thrives in dry air. Avoid high humidity and do not mist.
Pruning & Propagation: Prune to shape or encourage branching. Propagates easily from leaf or stem cuttings once calloused.
