Cosmos atrosanguineus 'Chocamocha' is a compact and richly coloured perennial producing velvety deep burgundy-red flowers from summer through to autumn. Cut back the faded top growth after the first frosts. In colder areas, lift the tuberous roots and store them somewhere cool, dry and frost-free over winter, much like dahlias. Alternatively, plants grown in pots can be moved into a sheltered, frost-free position and kept only lightly moist until spring.
