Centaurea nigra
Centaurea nigra is a hardy native perennial wildflower producing clusters of rich purple thistle-like blooms from summer into early autumn. The nectar-rich flowers are held above branching stems with narrow green foliage, creating a naturalistic display that is highly valuable for pollinators and wildlife.
Commonly found in meadows and grasslands, this easy to grow species is ideal for wildflower gardens, prairie planting and informal borders. Its long flowering period attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects in abundance, while the seedheads also provide interest later in the season.
