Camellia japonica 'Dr King'
Camellia japonica 'Dr King' is an upright evergreen shrub producing large, ruffled flowers in rich rose-red to reddish-pink shades. The single to semi-double blooms have prominent golden-yellow stamens, creating a striking contrast against glossy, dark green foliage from March to May.
Its bushy growth provides attractive structure throughout the year, making it a useful feature in mixed borders and woodland-style gardens. The richly coloured flowers bring a bold spring display and combine beautifully with pale-flowered camellias, rhododendrons and other shrubs that enjoy similar growing conditions.
Grow in partial or dappled shade with fertile, moist but well-drained acidic soil. Choose a sheltered position away from cold winds and early morning sun to protect the developing buds and flowers. Also suitable for large containers filled with ericaceous compost, 'Dr King' needs little pruning and benefits from regular watering during summer.
