Berberis thunbergii 'Ruby Star'
Berberis 'Ruby Star' is a slow-growing, exceptionally compact deciduous shrub prized for its vivid carmine-red foliage. As the leaves mature, a distinctive golden margin develops around the edges, creating an attractive bicoloured effect.
Small yellow flowers appear in May, contrasting beautifully with the colourful foliage. These are followed by ornamental blue-black berries, which extend the seasonal interest and provide a valuable source of food for garden birds.
With its dense, thorny habit, 'Ruby Star' is ideal for low hedging, border edging, patio containers or as a colourful focal point. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it performs well in full sun or partial shade and prefers well-drained soil.
