Berberis thunbergii 'Bagatelle' is a compact, slow-growing deciduous shrub with striking red-purple foliage that provides vibrant colour from spring into autumn. Its dense, mound-forming habit makes it ideal for edging, low hedges, or rockeries, where it adds structure and long-lasting seasonal interest. In spring, clusters of small yellow flowers contrast brightly against the dark leaves.
As the seasons progress, the foliage intensifies into fiery shades of crimson and orange before falling. Bright red berries appear in autumn and persist into winter, attracting garden birds and adding another layer of ornamental appeal. Easy to grow, drought tolerant once established, and low maintenance, ‘Bagatelle’ thrives in full sun for the best foliage colour but will also tolerate partial shade.
