Viburnum × bodnantense 'Dawn'
Viburnum × bodnantense 'Dawn' is an upright deciduous shrub prized for its richly fragrant flowers during the colder months. From late autumn into spring, clusters of dark pink buds open into tubular pink flowers that gradually fade to pale pink-white, creating a delicate display against the bare branches.
The powerful, sweet fragrance makes this variety particularly rewarding near paths, entrances and seating areas, where its winter flowers can be appreciated close up. Dark green, toothed leaves develop in spring, providing a leafy backdrop through summer before falling to reveal the flowering stems again.
Hardy, reliable and easy to grow, 'Dawn' is ideal for mixed borders, woodland edges and winter planting schemes. It thrives in full sun or partial shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Allow room for its upright framework to develop, and prune after flowering if needed. This dependable shrub holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
