Tillandsia bulbosa
Tillandsia bulbosa is one of the most distinctive members of the air plant family, instantly recognisable by its swollen bulb-like base and twisting, curling green leaves. This unusual epiphytic plant naturally grows attached to trees in tropical forests, absorbing moisture and nutrients directly from the air through specialised scales on its leaves rather than through soil.
Its sculptural form makes it a striking choice for terrariums, mounted displays, hanging planters or creative indoor arrangements. As it matures, the foliage may blush red before producing attractive tubular purple flowers from a colourful pink to red flower spike, adding even more ornamental appeal.

Tillandsia Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sun. Avoid harsh, direct midday rays.
Water: Mist thoroughly 2–3 times a week, or soak in water for 20 minutes once a week, allowing it to dry fully afterwards.
Soil/Nutrition: No soil required. Feed monthly with a diluted bromeliad or air plant fertiliser.
Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity but must dry quickly after watering to prevent rot.
Pruning & Propagation: Remove any dead leaves at the base. Produces offsets (pups) after flowering, which can be separated when mature.
