Fragaria × ananassa 'Gento'
Strawberry 'Gento' is a reliable everbearing variety producing large, firm fruits with excellent flavour over a long harvesting season. The berries are well-shaped and robust, making them ideal for fresh eating, desserts and preserving.
This variety can be planted from late July to mid-August, or in March, April and May. Fruiting typically runs from July through to November, depending on conditions and planting time - though the later you plant, the lighter the first harvest is likely to be. ‘Gento’ also tolerates light frost, helping to extend the cropping season.
As a continuous fruiting type, it benefits from removing the first flush of flowers after planting. This allows the young plant to establish strong leafy growth before directing its energy into producing fruit steadily over its long season.
