Skimmia japonica 'Mystic Marlot' (M)
Skimmia japonica 'Mystic Marlot' is a compact male evergreen shrub admired for its colourful winter buds and fragrant spring flowers. From late autumn into winter, clusters of pink-red buds appear, adding brightness and seasonal interest before opening into creamy-white, sweetly scented blooms in spring. These flowers are highly attractive to pollinators, bringing bees and butterflies into the garden.
The foliage is equally striking, with deep green leaves neatly edged in creamy-white, creating a variegated effect that adds year-round brightness and structure. As a male variety, it does not produce berries but serves as an excellent pollinator for female Skimmia cultivars. Easy to grow and low maintenance, ‘Mystic Marlot’ thrives in partial to full shade, making it perfect for containers, woodland borders, or shaded spots where many other plants struggle. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it is a reliable and ornamental choice for gardens of all sizes.
