Skimmia japonica 'Mystic Marlot' (M)
Skimmia japonica 'Mystic Marlot' (M) is a compact male evergreen shrub with colourful winter buds and fragrant spring flowers. Clusters of cream buds gradually deepen to rich red through winter before opening into white flowers flushed with pink, creating a long season of interest.
Its attractive grey-green leaves are edged with narrow silvery-cream margins, bringing brightness and structure to shaded planting throughout the year. As a male variety, it does not produce berries but can pollinate compatible female Skimmias growing nearby.
Hardy, slow growing and easy to maintain, 'Mystic Marlot' thrives in partial or full shade and moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Its compact habit makes it ideal for containers, woodland-style borders, courtyard gardens and other sheltered areas with limited sunlight.
