Skimmia japonica 'Marlot' (M)
Skimmia 'Marlot' is a compact male variety of Skimmia, valued for its glossy evergreen foliage and reliable garden performance. Its deep green leaves provide year-round structure, while in winter the shrub is covered in long-lasting red flower buds. These open in spring to reveal clusters of fragrant creamy-white blooms that are highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Although this male cultivar does not produce berries, it plays a vital role in pollinating female Skimmia varieties such as Skimmia japonica 'Rubella' or 'Nymans'. With its compact, bushy habit, ‘Marlot’ is particularly suited to containers, shaded patios, or the front of borders where its fragrance can be appreciated. Easy to grow and tolerant of shade, it is a dependable choice for low-maintenance planting schemes. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it is recognised for its excellent garden value.
