Selenicereus wercklei
Selenicereus wercklei is a species of epiphytic cactus native to the tropical regions of Central and South America. It belongs to the genus Selenicereus, which includes night-blooming cacti often found in rainforests and cloud forests.
Key Characteristics:
- Growth Form: This species typically features long, slender, and climbing stems, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets, trellises, or elevated planters
- Flowers: The large, showy flowers are typically white or pale yellow and bloom at night, emitting a fragrant scent. Flowering occurs in the summer, with blooms opening in the evening and wilting by morning
- Habitat: Native to humid, subtropical forests, Selenicereus wercklei thrives in well-draining soil and partial shade, often growing on trees or rocks in its natural habitat
Care Tips:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause sunburn or damage to the delicate stems
- Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings and reduce watering in winter when the plant enters a dormancy phase
