Sambucus nigra 'Cherry Lace'
Sambucus nigra 'Cherry Lace' is a compact deciduous elder prized for its finely cut, feathery foliage and changing seasonal colour. Young leaves emerge green with red tones before maturing to deep cherry-red, creating an elegant contrast with lighter green shrubs and flowering perennials.
Large clusters of pink and white flowers appear during May and June. Each bloom has a white centre with vivid pink edges, standing out beautifully against the dark foliage. The flowers attract pollinating insects and may be followed by purple-black autumn berries that provide food for birds.
Hardy, easy to grow and low maintenance, 'Cherry Lace' is ideal for mixed borders, wildlife gardens and specimen planting in smaller spaces. Grow in full sun or partial shade with moist but well-drained soil, and water regularly while establishing to support healthy growth.
