Salix gracilistyla 'Mount Aso'

Salix 'Mount Aso' is a distinctive deciduous willow with an upright, bushy habit and exceptional winter interest. Its bare stems become covered in soft, silvery-pink catkins, creating an unusual and colourful display when little else is flowering.

The fluffy catkins appear from late winter into early spring, gradually revealing golden-yellow anthers as they mature. They are excellent for cutting and arranging, while the emerging grey-green leaves have attractive silvery undersides that provide further interest throughout summer.

Hardy and easy to grow, this willow performs best in full sun and deep, moist but well-drained soil. It makes an eye-catching feature in mixed borders, wildlife gardens and winter planting schemes, and can be pruned in early spring to encourage a denser display of catkins.
