Rudbeckia triloba
Rudbeckia triloba is a wonderfully naturalistic perennial producing masses of small, golden-yellow daisy-like flowers with dark central cones. The individual blooms are smaller than those of many familiar Rudbeckias, but they are carried in abundance to create a light, airy display from late summer well into autumn.
Its upright, branching habit makes it particularly effective woven through grasses and other late-flowering perennials, where the bright flowers add warmth and movement to prairie-style and informal planting schemes. It combines especially well with ornamental grasses, Salvia and Symphyotrichum.
Although relatively short-lived, Rudbeckia triloba flowers for such a long period that it is well worth growing and replacing as required. It performs well in sun or partial shade and is adaptable to most soil types, making it an easy and rewarding choice for late-season colour.
