Azalea 'Rosenköpfchen'
Azalea 'Rosenköpfchen', also known as Rhododendron mixtum 'Rosenköpfchen', is a showy deciduous azalea producing striking, fully double flowers from mid-May to early June. Opening from deep purplish-red buds, the blooms mature into vibrant purplish-pink with lighter markings and a warm yellow-orange throat on the upper petal, creating a vivid, glowing display.
The individual trumpet-shaped flowers measure around 7.5cm across and, with transformed stamens forming extra petals, they are richly double with irregular, slightly wavy or twisted forms. Around 14 blooms cluster together into rounded trusses up to 13cm wide, offering a bold and long-lasting show. Upright yet broad in habit, ‘Rosenköpfchen’ reaches about 110cm in height and spread after 10 years. Hardy and reliable, it thrives in acidic, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade, where its colour intensity is best preserved.
