Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Elizabeth'
Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Elizabeth' is an elegant evergreen shrub with gently wavy, grey-green leaves edged in cream. The margins develop a rosy-pink flush, especially in colder weather, while dark purple stems provide an attractive contrast. Its colourful foliage brings lasting brightness and texture to planting schemes.
In May and June, small dark purple flowers appear amongst the leaves, releasing a sweet, honey-like fragrance. Its upright, bushy habit makes it useful for informal hedging, screening and feature planting, while the decorative foliage is also excellent for adding texture to flower arrangements.
Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Choose a sheltered position away from cold, drying winds, and provide winter protection in colder gardens. Light trimming in late spring helps maintain a tidy outline, making it a versatile choice for mixed borders and large patio containers.
