Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Tricolor'
Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Tricolor', also known as 'Goshiki', is a slow-growing evergreen shrub with dense, bushy growth and colourful holly-like foliage. The glossy green leaves are marbled and flecked with creamy white, while fresh young growth often carries warm pink and bronze tones.
Small clusters of fragrant white flowers appear in late summer and autumn, adding scent to its long season of foliage interest. Blue-black fruits may occasionally follow. Its contrasting leaves brighten mixed planting and combine particularly well with darker evergreens, providing colour and texture throughout the year.
Ideal for mixed borders, informal hedging and large patio containers, 'Tricolor' grows well in full sun or partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. Its steady growth requires little maintenance, although light trimming in late winter can help retain a compact outline. Water container plants regularly during dry spells.
