Myrtus communis
Myrtus communis is a handsome evergreen shrub with a dense, bushy habit and aromatic, glossy foliage. In summer it bears masses of starry white flowers with a delightful fragrance, each bloom tipped with prominent golden stamens that attract bees and butterflies. These are followed in autumn by purple-black berries, which add further ornamental interest and provide food for garden birds.
Highly versatile and easy to grow, common myrtle thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it ideal for warm, sheltered borders, Mediterranean-style gardens, or large containers.
