Mammillaria bombycina
Mammillaria bombycina, commonly known as the Silken Pincushion Cactus, is an attractive compact cactus prized for its dense covering of fine, silvery-white spines contrasted by longer reddish-brown central spines. Its rounded stems gradually form clusters, creating a soft, almost feathery appearance despite the protective spines.
During spring and early summer, mature plants can produce a crown of small pink to magenta flowers around the top of the stems. Easy to care for and naturally drought tolerant, it is particularly well suited to sunny windowsills, cactus collections and smaller indoor spaces.
- Other names: Silken Pincushion Cactus
- Useful to know: Not known to be toxic, but sharp spines can cause injury - keep away from pets and children
- Feature: Silvery-white spines with reddish-brown central spines and pink to magenta flowers
- Eventual height: Can grow up to approximately 20cm, gradually forming a wider cluster
- Origins: Mexico
