Malus floribunda

Malus floribunda, commonly known as the Japanese Crab Apple, is one of the most ornamental of flowering crab apples. In spring, its branches are smothered with masses of carmine-pink buds that open to fragrant, pale pink blossoms, fading almost to white. The flowers are highly attractive to pollinators and create a dazzling seasonal display.

Through summer, the tree carries small green fruits which ripen to bright red or yellow by autumn, often persisting into winter and providing food for birds. Its spreading, arching habit and reliable seasonal colour make it an excellent specimen tree for lawns, mixed borders, or wildlife gardens. Malus floribunda is also noted as a superb pollinator for other apple and crab apple varieties.
