Leucothoe axillaris 'Sparkling Gold'
Leucothoe 'Sparkling Gold' is a compact evergreen shrub grown for its colourful foliage and dense, bushy habit. Golden-yellow leaves contrast with soft pink-red new shoots in spring and summer, bringing brightness and warmth to borders and container displays.
The golden foliage retains its colour through autumn and winter, complemented by bright red shoots that extend its seasonal appeal. Its naturally neat growth provides useful year-round structure, making it an attractive choice for smaller gardens, mixed borders and patio pots. Plant alongside darker-leaved shrubs or other acid-loving plants to highlight its colourful foliage.
Hardy and easy to accommodate, 'Sparkling Gold' grows well in full sun or partial shade with moist, acidic, well-drained soil. Use ericaceous compost when planting in containers and water regularly to prevent the rootball drying out. Its manageable size also makes it suitable for balcony displays and courtyard planting.
