Juniperus chinensis
Juniperus chinensis is a versatile evergreen conifer, forming a tall, conical to columnar tree. Its aromatic foliage can vary between sharply pointed juvenile leaves and closely overlapping, scale-like mature leaves, giving the plant plenty of texture throughout the year.
Small, rounded fruits develop amongst the foliage, ripening to a distinctive glaucous white in their second year. Its dense evergreen habit and architectural form make Chinese Juniper particularly useful as a structural specimen or for adding permanent height and interest to larger gardens.
Easy to grow and drought tolerant once established, it thrives in full sun or partial shade and is adaptable to a wide range of soil types, provided they are well drained. It is exceptionally hardy and suitable for both sheltered and exposed positions.
