Ilex 'J C van Tol' is a superb evergreen holly with a broadly upright habit and an elegant, refined appearance. A self-fertile female variety, it produces an abundant crop of bright red berries without the need for a pollinating partner. Nearly spineless, glossy dark green leaves make it a safer and more user-friendly holly for gardens and for cutting. Young shoots emerge rich purple, developing into dense, attractive foliage throughout the year.
Small white flowers appear in late spring, followed by masses of berries that provide striking winter colour and an excellent food source for birds. Ideal as a specimen tree, for screening, or for formal shaping, this reliable and versatile holly holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, ensuring excellent performance in a wide range of garden settings.
