Ribes uva-crispa Invicta ®
Gooseberry Invicta® is one of the UK’s most popular Gooseberry varieties, producing heavy crops of sweet, pale green berries over a long fruiting period, from late July to August. Excellent for both fresh eating and cooking, the fruits have a reliable sweet-sharp flavour and are ideal for pies, jams, preserves, or freezing. Bred in Kent in 1967, this trusted variety remains a favourite for its consistency and dependable yield.
With very good resistance to mildew and a strong, vigorous habit, Invicta® is easy to grow and well suited to a wide range of garden conditions. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it performs reliably in home gardens and allotments, offering abundant harvests with minimal care.

Gooseberry Growing Tips
- Happier planted in a sunny, sheltered site but they can tolerate light shade.
- Prefer moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
- Space plants well and prune to an open shape to improve air circulation and reduce the risk of mildew.
- Mulch annually to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
- Prune in winter: remove old, crossing or low branches, keeping a goblet-shaped framework.
- If you would like to eat the fruits yourself, don't forget to cover the plant to stop the birds getting them!
