Eryngium planum
Eryngium planum is a striking, clump-forming perennial with metallic steel-blue stems and distinctive cone-shaped flowerheads surrounded by spiky bracts. Flowering from midsummer into early autumn, it brings bold structure, colour and texture to sunny borders, gravel gardens and prairie-style planting schemes.
Its long-lasting blooms are highly attractive to bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Drought tolerant once established and easy to grow in well-drained soil, it is also superb as a cut flower, both fresh and dried.
