Echinacea purpurea 'Starlight'
Echinacea purpurea 'Starlight' is a sturdy, upright perennial producing large purple-red coneflowers with prominent glowing orange-brown centres. The petals are held broadly horizontal to slightly reflexed, creating a bold display above lush green foliage from midsummer into early autumn.
This dependable Coneflower is particularly valuable for wildlife, with the nectar-rich flowers attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects. Its strong stems and long flowering period also make it an excellent choice for mixed perennial borders, prairie-style planting and cottage gardens.
Best grown in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, 'Starlight' is hardy and relatively low maintenance once established. Deadheading can help prolong flowering, while leaving some spent seed heads in place provides attractive winter structure and a food source for birds.
