Dionaea muscipula 'Zipp'
Dionaea muscipula 'Zipp' is a distinctive cultivar of the Venus Flytrap, prized for its unique, ragged-edged trap shape and reliable insect-catching ability. Each trap has a narrower, elongated appearance with fine trigger hairs and toothed margins, snapping shut when touched to capture flies and other small insects. Its bright green leaves with red-tinged interiors add a bold contrast, making it a fascinating addition to any plant collection.
Compact in growth, it produces fresh green leaves with traps that often blush red inside when grown in bright light. In summer, it may send up tall stems topped with small white flowers, though these are often removed to conserve the plant’s strength. Best grown in acidic, nutrient-poor compost such as sphagnum moss, with rainwater or distilled water only. Perfect for a sunny windowsill, greenhouse, or patio table feature where its unusual character can be enjoyed.
