Cotoneaster horizontalis
Cotoneaster horizontalis is a low-growing deciduous shrub with a distinctive herringbone branching pattern, creating a dense, spreading framework of glossy green foliage. In spring, the branches are covered with masses of small pink-tinged white flowers that are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.
As the season progresses, bright red berries develop in abundance, providing an excellent food source for garden birds. The foliage also puts on a vivid autumn display, turning rich shades of red and orange before falling.
Hardy, reliable and easy to grow, Cotoneaster horizontalis is ideal for groundcover, banks, rockeries and planting against walls. Its spreading habit and strong seasonal interest make it a particularly useful choice for wildlife-friendly gardens and low-maintenance planting schemes.
