Corylus 'Contorta' 40L

Corylus avellana 'Contorta'

Corylus 'Contorta' is a distinctive deciduous shrub grown for its unusual twisted and corkscrew-like branches, which provide strong architectural interest throughout the year. Its contorted stems are particularly effective in winter when the plant is bare and their sculptural form can be fully appreciated.

In late winter and early spring, long yellow catkins hang from the branches before the foliage emerges. The crinkled green leaves provide interest through summer before developing attractive yellow-orange tones in autumn, giving this characterful shrub appeal across several seasons.

Hardy and easy to grow, 'Contorta' makes an excellent specimen plant in borders or larger gardens and performs well in most well-drained soils. The unusual stems are also highly valued for use in floral arrangements and seasonal displays.
