Cordyline australis 'Red Star'
Cordyline australis 'Red Star' is a striking evergreen architectural plant with long, sword-shaped leaves in deep bronze-red and burgundy shades. The foliage forms an upright, fountain-like crown, bringing bold colour, texture and structure to the garden throughout the year.
Young plants make impressive centrepieces in mixed containers, while established specimens gradually develop a trunk and a palm-like appearance. Its strong outline contrasts beautifully with softer grasses and flowering perennials, making it ideal for contemporary borders, exotic planting schemes and large patio pots. Mature plants may produce fragrant creamy-white flowers during summer.
Grow in full sun or partial shade with well-drained soil and shelter from cold winds. Drought tolerant once established, 'Red Star' still benefits from regular watering in containers. Protect from hard frost and prolonged cold, wet conditions, moving potted plants into a bright, frost-free position where possible.
