Cistus × purpureus 'Alan Fradd'
Cistus × purpureus 'Alan Fradd' is a compact, dwarf evergreen shrub valued for its toughness, neat habit and long-lasting summer interest. Its grey-green foliage provides attractive year-round structure and creates an excellent backdrop for the flowers.
From early to midsummer, masses of large white flowers appear, each boldly marked with a deep maroon blotch at the base of the petals. The papery blooms create a striking contrast and bring a strong Mediterranean feel to sunny planting schemes.
Low maintenance and highly drought tolerant once established, 'Alan Fradd' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It is ideal for gravel gardens, Mediterranean-style borders and exposed coastal locations, where its compact form and resilient nature perform particularly well.
