Cissus quadrangularis
Cissus quadrangularis is an unusual tropical succulent vine prized for its thick, segmented stems and architectural appearance. Often known as the Veldt Grape or Devil’s Backbone, this fascinating plant features upright fleshy stems with distinct angular joints that create a bold, sculptural look perfect for modern indoor plant displays.
The vibrant green stems are complemented by soft green leaves that emerge at the nodes, giving the plant a lush jungle appearance while still retaining excellent drought tolerance. Its upright growth and unusual form make it an eye-catching statement plant for shelves, desks or bright conservatories.

Cissus Care Sheet
Light: Prefers bright indirect light and can tolerate some gentle direct morning or evening sun. Avoid very dark positions.
Water: Allow the compost to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow excess moisture to drain away. Reduce watering during winter.
Soil/Nutrition: Use a free-draining cactus or houseplant compost with added perlite. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
Humidity: Enjoys average household humidity and warm temperatures. Does not require high humidity to thrive.
Pruning and propagation: Trim stems to maintain shape and encourage branching. Very easy to propagate from stem cuttings.
