Chaenomeles × superba 'Crimson and Gold' is a striking deciduous shrub producing a dazzling display of crimson-red flowers with prominent golden-yellow centres. The vivid blooms appear along the bare branches in early spring before the fresh green foliage emerges.
The nectar-rich flowers provide a valuable early food source for bees and other pollinating insects. Fragrant, apple-like quince fruits develop during autumn and can be cooked for use in jams and preserves or left for garden wildlife.
