Catalpa bignonioides 'Aurea'
Catalpa 'Aurea' is a striking deciduous tree prized for its large, heart-shaped golden-yellow leaves. The bold foliage emerges brightly coloured in spring and retains its warm tones through summer, creating an eye-catching focal point in larger gardens and landscapes.
On mature trees, showy panicles of white, trumpet-shaped flowers may appear in mid to late summer, often marked with purple and yellow. These are attractive to pollinating insects and may be followed by distinctive long, bean-like seed pods that provide additional interest into autumn.
With its broad, rounded crown and dramatic foliage, 'Aurea' makes an excellent specimen tree for lawns, parks and larger gardens. It performs best in fertile, moist but well-drained soil and is particularly effective for adding contrast, shade and strong structure to planting schemes.
