Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea 'Harlequin'
Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea 'Harlequin' is a striking deciduous shrub grown for its richly coloured foliage, featuring deep red-purple leaves attractively splashed and speckled with creamy pink. This unusual variegation creates vibrant contrast throughout the growing season, making it a standout addition to borders and mixed shrub plantings.
In mid-spring, clusters of small pale-yellow flowers flushed with red appear amongst the foliage, followed later by ornamental berries. As autumn arrives, the foliage intensifies to brilliant shades of scarlet red before falling, extending the seasonal display. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it performs well in both full sun and partial shade.
