Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome'
Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' is a compact, clump-forming perennial with masses of deep purple, semi-double daisy-like flowers surrounding golden-yellow centres. Its leafy stems form a rounded mound that becomes covered in blooms.
Flowering from late summer into autumn, it extends the colour in mixed borders, cottage gardens and prairie-style planting. The flowers provide a useful late-season food source for butterflies and other pollinators, combining well with ornamental grasses and autumn-flowering perennials.
Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water during dry spells and avoid winter waterlogging. Divide established clumps every few years to maintain vigour and cut back old stems after flowering.
