Amelanchier × grandiflora 'Ballerina'
Amelanchier × grandiflora 'Ballerina' is a graceful deciduous shrub or small tree valued for its attractive branching habit and excellent seasonal interest. Large clusters of star-shaped white flowers appear in spring alongside bronze-tinted young foliage, creating an elegant early display.
The leaves mature to fresh green during summer, when edible red berries develop and gradually ripen to deep purple. These sweet fruits may be harvested for eating or preserves, although they are also eagerly enjoyed by garden birds.
In autumn, the foliage turns rich shades of orange, red and reddish-purple. Hardy and reliable, 'Ballerina' grows well in full sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained, lime-free soil, making it an excellent specimen for lawns, borders and woodland-style planting.
