Acer palmatum 'Black Lace' is a striking Japanese maple prized for its finely cut, deeply serrated foliage in exceptionally dark red shades. The elegant, lace-like leaves create a refined silhouette and provide rich colour from spring through summer.
This graceful deciduous tree develops a balanced, upright habit, making it an excellent focal point for borders, woodland-style gardens and sheltered courtyards. Its dark foliage contrasts beautifully with green-leaved shrubs, grasses and lighter-coloured perennials.
For the strongest leaf colour and to reduce the risk of scorching, grow 'Black Lace' in a sheltered position with light or dappled shade, protected from harsh midday sun and strong winds. It also performs well in a large container filled with suitable, moisture-retentive but well-drained compost.
