Acer palmatum 'Arakawa'
Acer 'Arakawa' is a distinctive deciduous Japanese maple prized for its unusual rough, corky bark, which becomes increasingly pronounced as the tree matures. Its small, finely lobed green leaves create an attractive canopy through spring and summer.
In autumn, the foliage develops beautiful shades of golden yellow and orange before falling to reveal the characterful textured bark. With its upright growth and excellent year-round interest, 'Arakawa' makes an impressive specimen tree for sheltered gardens and Japanese-style planting.
Hardy and reliable, 'Arakawa' performs best in a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade and moist but well-drained soil. Protection from strong winds and prolonged dry conditions will help keep the delicate foliage looking its best.
