A remarkable new rose from David Austin Roses is set to make its official debut at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 this May, with the launch of the elegant new ‘Sir David Beckham’ English shrub rose.

The rose was inspired by a deeply personal family gesture. Created to celebrate David Beckham’s 50th birthday, the variety was chosen following a thoughtful idea from his daughter, Harper, who wanted something lasting and meaningful to mark the occasion. The result is a rose that not only reflects beauty and craftsmanship, but also family, heritage and enduring connection.
More than ten years in the making, the rose was first raised in 2012 before undergoing extensive trials and assessment by the David Austin breeding team. White roses are famously difficult to breed successfully due to the recessive nature of the colour, making the achievement even more significant. After years of careful selection, the rose was chosen for its strength, reliability, fragrance and refined beauty.
The blooms are described as luminous white with soft blush-pink tones and subtle hints of warm gold at the centre. Flowers appear in generous clusters against dark green foliage and red-tinged stems, creating an elegant contrast throughout the flowering season. Repeat flowering from summer until the first frosts ensures long-lasting garden performance, while open centres rich in golden stamens also make the blooms highly attractive to pollinators.
Its fragrance is said to be particularly distinctive, opening with fresh green notes before developing into warm layers of honey, nougat, clove and myrrh — thought to be a subtle nod to Beckham’s well-known interest in beekeeping and nature.
Growing to around three to four feet tall, the variety has been bred as a versatile English shrub rose suitable for borders, mixed planting schemes and larger patio containers alike.
Beyond the rose itself, the launch also carries a charitable element. For every ‘Sir David Beckham’ rose sold, £2.50 will be donated to The King's Foundation, supporting sustainable communities, education initiatives and heritage projects inspired by the vision of King Charles III.
