Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea 'Admiration'
Berberis 'Admiration' is a compact deciduous shrub valued for its vibrant foliage and changing seasonal colour. New leaves emerge glowing orange-red before developing a distinctive golden-yellow margin through summer, with the colours becoming richer as autumn approaches.
This neat, rounded Japanese barberry is ideal for adding strong foliage colour to beds, borders and patio containers, and can also be used to create low informal hedging. Its compact habit makes it particularly useful in smaller gardens where structure and seasonal interest are important.
Hardy, adaptable and easy to grow, 'Admiration' performs best in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. It is also suitable for coastal gardens once established and requires very little maintenance beyond occasional pruning to maintain its shape.
