Wisteria sinensis
Wisteria sinensis is a vigorous, deciduous climber celebrated for its spectacular cascades of fragrant lilac-blue flowers in spring. The long, pendulous racemes appear before or alongside the emerging foliage, creating a breathtaking display that draws the eye and fills the air with scent.
Highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, this twining climber is ideal for covering pergolas, arches and sunny walls, where its dramatic floral curtains can be fully appreciated. Fresh green, pinnate leaves provide a soft backdrop through summer before turning golden in autumn. Best grown in full sun and well-drained soil, it benefits from twice-yearly pruning to encourage reliable flowering.
